The Polish Song and Dance Company of Brisbane ‘Obertas’ was formed in early 1982 for the initial purpose of performing in the Opening Ceremony of the Brisbane Commonwealth Games. Obertas now boasts a dynamic repertoire of folkloric songs and dances from a diverse range of Polish regions and historic contexts, and continues to be the premier showpiece of Polish folklore in south-east Queensland.
For over forty years, under the artistic direction of its classically trained founder and choreographer, Henry Kurylewski, Obertas has taught its members, young and old, past and present, the basics of classical dance as the foundation for its vast repertoire of Polish regions, and has given numerous performances at local venues, as well as in capital cities around Australia and New Zealand, participating in television appearances, fifteen PolArt Festivals, seven Queensland Multi-cultural Festivals, two Shell Folkloric Concerts and World Expo ’88.
Obertas is thrilled to be participating in PolArt Adelaide 2025!
