Joanna Sosna

I earned my Master’s degree in Art Conservation and Restoration from Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Poland. In 2007, I completed a Graduate Diploma in Applied Heritage Studies at Curtin University of Technology. My work experience has focused on the conservation of artworks and historical sites dating from the 14th to the 19th centuries in Poland.

My experience with restoration sparked an interest in studying and practising iconography. Since then, I have applied my knowledge of the historical egg tempera technique in painting. I often work on a wooden base, preparing traditional gesso by combining Bologna chalk with animal glue, and creating paint by mixing dry pigments with a binder composed of egg yolk, water, and white wine.

Since moving to Perth in 2022, my art has been featured in PolArt exhibitions in Sydney and Adelaide, as well as annual exhibitions at the Western Australian Society of Arts in Perth. I was also a finalist in the City of South Perth Emerging Artist Awards and the City of Bayswater Community Art Awards. In the last two years, I have been a finalist in both the 13th International Biennial of Miniature Art and the Triennial of Small-Scale Painting Forms in Poland.
