Jan was born in 1960, in Krosno, the beautiful city in the Subcarpathian Province of Poland.
His photographic work started at the time of his studies in Kraków, where, in parallel with his engineering education he started to explore arts, focusing on the black & white photography and cinema studies. Jan’s first solo exhibition was held in the “Propozycje” Art-Gallery in Kraków, in 1986.
In his photographic works Jan uses different techniques including image transformation, photomontage, arranged composition, out of focus – closeup and “painting with camera”. As he frequently says, his photographs ‘are made’, not taken and are more closely associated with painting rather than traditional photography. Some of his recent works explore associations between visual elements of image and elements of music. Other, more allegorical, explore the fundamental question: “Quo Vadis Humanities”, the question related to our human conditions, our core Christian values.
Jan is a member of the Royal South Australian Society of Arts where he regularly exhibits his works. His most recent solo exhibitions include: “Preludes… and other short pieces on elements of South Australian landscape”, “Synthesis”, “Returning tunes”, and “Sacred Garden”.
Jan’s works got awarded at several local and major international fine art photography competitions.
