Ela Chylewska

Elżbieta (Ela) Chylewska, born in Szczecin, Poland, lives in Sydney, where she worked for 36 years at the State Library of New South Wales. Although officially retired, Ela continues to collaborate with SBS Radio and ExPress, the Australian Polish Magazine.

Her poetic debut was in 1986 in the magazine Tu i Tam, followed by three books of poetry: Apetyt na raj (Appetite for Paradise), Za bramą raju (Beyond the Gates of Paradise), and Pod skrzydłami (Under the Wings). Her works have also appeared in numerous anthologies and magazines published in Australia. In Poland, her poems have been published in various anthologies, literary periodicals, and online platforms.

Since 2004, Ela has been a member of Teatr Fantazja in Sydney, where she performs as an actress and songwriter. She also writes scripts and stage adaptations for children and adults. Ela’s greatest passion is writing satirical poems for friends and family, who, she says, complete her life.
