
Aldona Kmieć is a Polish-born photographic artist working between Melbourne and Ballarat. She grew up in Poland, completed photography studies at London Metropolitan University Since migrating to Australia in 2009, she has created work that reflects themes of home, migration, and memory.
Aldona’s recent work includes Veil (2024), a long-exposure photographic self-portrait series exploring colour, femininity, and states of impermanence; Neighbourhood Watch (2024), a public art commission for Banyule City Council; and Winterbloom (2023), a photographic series exhibition commissioned by RACV. Her upcoming solo show Hills Hoist (2025), supported by the City of Melbourne Arts Grant, extends her interest in domestic symbols and diasporic identity.
She was a documentary photographer for State Library Victoria during the pandemic (2020–2022), and her earlier projects include In the Process of Healing (2017), a site-specific installation in Ballarat, and We R You (2013), a participatory street art project engaging culturally diverse communities.
Aldona has participated in PolArt festivals since 2012 and has been a finalist in several major awards, including the Omnia Art Prize (2025), City of Melbourne Arts Grant (2024), Mullins Conceptual Photography Prize (2024), CLIP Award (2024), and Bowness Photography Prize (2014).
