Established in Melbourne in 1975, 'Łowicz' Polish Vocal-Dance Ensemble has dedicated 50 years to proudly promoting Polish folkloric culture through dance and song. Founded by Krystyna Straszynska with eight original members, Łowicz has grown into a vibrant ensemble that is active within both the Polish and wider communities, organising and performing at multicultural concerts, galas, and fundraising events, as well as participating in numerous interstate festivals, including the triennial PolArt festival.
In 2016, the ensemble proudly introduced its junior group, ‘Łowiczaki’. Comprising young dancers aged 5 to 12, Łowiczaki bring traditional folk dances to life with energy and enthusiasm, showcasing their Polish culture with their vibrant costumes and engaging choreography.
In 2025, Łowicz celebrates its 50th anniversary, marking five decades of dedication to Polish cultural heritage in Australia. The heart of Łowicz lies in its members’ passion for Polish culture and the vision of its Artistic Directors, past and present. Under the current artistic direction of Natalia Szymanski, with the support of a dedicated team, the ensemble continues to flourish, sharing the rich traditions of Polish folk music and dance with new generations across Melbourne.
